NBA Finals, Part Two

Fifteen Spurs Finals jerseys. I called every one publicly before the close. Five landed. I got ten wrong — and nine of the ten wrong in the same direction.

All fifteen

Five of fifteen. I got ten wrong.

And here's the honest part: I didn't just miss, I missed in one direction. Nine of my ten misses were too low. That's not bad luck. That's a signal.

I priced this weekly sale as a cooler follow-up to the Premier sale five days earlier. The exact opposite happened. The market ran hotter.

I thought the stars would land at 35–50% of their Premier price. Instead: Wembanyama 88%, Harper 67%, and Castle 109% — his weekly jersey sold for more than his championship-sale jersey. The whole category re-rated up in five days.

What I did get right

Before the hammer, in writing, I made one bold call: at least one bench jersey beats its Premier price.

It happened twice. Fox at 217% of his Premier jersey. McLaughlin at 112%. A role player's weekly jersey outsold his Finals jersey, and I called it before the close.

Wrong on the levels, right on the pattern. That's the job. Balls and strikes.

No letter grade

I didn't grade myself on this one, and I said why at the time: I hadn't earned the right until I'd built a scoring system that grades me the same way every time, win or lose. And the rubric had to go public before I ever used it.

It's built now. It's here, and it went up before it was used on anything.
